Do anyone else’s LD issues go in a cycle? My math ability is always just about zero but my ability to follow directions goes in a cycle. Sometimes it is so clear that it’s almost like my LD doesn’t exist. Other times it’s like my LD just increased tenfold. The simplest thing will confuse me. I have heard that for girls this can be related to the hormone fluctuations that occur with the menstual cycle; is that true?
Hmmm, sounds very familiar
Seems like it’s that way with my ADD too. I just don’t get it. I know no one’s an expert, but do hormones cause you not to be able to concentrate? Or get frustrated, anxious, depressed, upset, irritated, confused too easily? Sounds like it almost makes sense. But not quite. But for someone with dysgraphia, I don’t know. I would think it would be the same all the time, but who knows? Maybe it’s just harder to concentrate when you write when your “best friend” is about due.
A side note: this has nothing to do with ADD or LD, but I seem to get short of breath when my monthly friend is due. At least my mom thinks so. She thinks so because my breathing problems are inconsistent and she had that problem when she was pregnant. Could be water weight related? Anyone ever heard of either issue I’ve mentioned? I feel so strange sometimes because I don’t know what’s wrong.
Hormones...can't live WITH them,
Can’t live without them! YES, asthma is known to be worse during ‘tom’ (time of month); I have read this and also know it to be true from personal experience. Mild shortness of breath could be mild or undx’d asthma…I was not considered asthmatic until after a bad lung infection in my late 20’s, but had suffered from mild shortness of breath during humid or very cold conditions since my early teens — when dx’d, the lung specialist said that this was the asthmatic reaction, but in a very mild form…
Those of us who are forty-something will tell you that YES, hormones can cause your brain to go awol and your emotions to go haywire…no surprise to me that learning/memory difficulties are worse at certain times of the month…
Very interesting
Hmm. Sounds true. Sorry to hear about the lung infection. I was told my shortness of breath had to do with panic attacks and not asthma, but I really did not believe it at all. I wonder what to do. Has anyone had any success with midol PMS? I’m afraid to try that because it’s a diuretic and a stimulant. Hormones can really whack things out.
I haven’t seen any scientific studies on this but it is true that my dysgraphia is worse at certain times in my cycle.
The dysgraphia also is more obvious when I am stressed. I suffer from minor, minor PMS sytems so it may be the stress caused by that that causes the dysgrphia swing more than the actual hormonal change.
