Great Leaps Program Experiences

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am writing to get people’s experiences with the Great Leaps Program.

I bought the program last summer and used it for a few months with my now 11year old/about to enter 6th grade dyslexic daughter. Her decoding has been remediated well, however she still adds/changes/deletes the small sight words, and her reading style is somewhat choppy. With this program, and in her out loud reading in general (recreational reading), she is at about 120-130 words/minute, with one to three miscues. We are now starting up the program again for the summer, however I am concerned somewhat about how attainable the 180-200 words per minute rates are that are at the end of the program. Any input on relevant real life experiences is most appreciated. Also, any input as to the appropriateness of where she is right now regarding reading rate would be helpful too. Thank you.
