Re: Has anyone used Letterland and could tell some of their
Our dyslexia tutor used this program at first with my then 7 year old. He LOVED it. (I also have an older son and we used FastForWord and Lindamood very successfully.) The characters and how the letters were formed makes it very easy for visual recall. He even asks me sometimes if we could borrow some of those books to read. He loves Robbie Robber and the Wicked Water Witch, Poor Peter and Hairy Harry the Hat Man. For the younger child, I’d say it’s great. I wouldn’t buy all the materials though, because Reading Reflex and Lindamood are very good programs to give the necessary direct instruction in the phonemic understanding of reading, and I’d save my money for those.
I haven’t used it, but I can tell from the description of it at the website that I would *much* prefer to use Reading Reflex. The Reading Reflex book is only about $16 and is carried by most large bookstores.
It’s unnecessary for a child to learn to associate the letter “s” with a snake in order to read. In fact, it’s unnecessary for a child to learn letter names in order to read!
Website for Phono-Graphix (method used in the Reading Reflex book) is http://www.readamerica.net
