I was very impressed when I went to a meeting about Response to Intervention where an entire school is using a computer program called www.headsprout.com as a tier 2 intervention. The principal gave it high marks. Students wanted to stay in from recess to do the program.
On another listserve another teacher’s school is using it too. She posted some great results where the ONLY intervention was HeadSprout.
Now, I have had one kid to the program but he did more than one program in my room so when he made progress, I coudn’t contribute it all to the Headsprout. This other lady on the other listserv has that evidence.
This principal using RTI Response to Intervention had many good things to say. Enough to make me start posting to ask others their experiences. I’m so interested and may do a pilot at my school.
So, anyone out there tried it? They have a FREE TRIAL.
I’m going to get my sister to do it who homeschools

Michelle,
We’ve had discussions with someone from that company several times on one of the yahoo groups. Maybe you aren’t on that one. It is a good program and gets favorable reviews from FCRR. I think it sounds great for K-2 intervention. It is not a program I’d choose for remediating dyslexic kids, which presumably would be tier 3 anyway. I had an offer to try it free with a couple of my younger kids last summer, but neither of the young children had a working computer at that time at home, so we didn’t get to do it. I think the other similar program would be Funnix, but it does require more adult supervision even though it is computer based. Either would be good for home use, though. Headsprout would probably be easier at school. I can try to connect you with the person from the company if you want. Email me.
