homeschool in Bay Area, CA

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have a son who is severely dyslexic. He has been at a private school for learning differences for the past 3 years and now we are facing high school. I am thinking about homeschooling, is there anyone in my area with experience in homeschooling the LD child? Thanks!

I also have a severely dyslexic son who will be high school aged this fall. I homeschooled him for 8 months (when he was in 6th) very successfully (along with help from a dyslexia tutor who taught both of us Lindamood. He also did FastForWord.) He was so much improved that we decided to return him to school for 7th in Jr. High. With modifications at his public school, he’s doing pretty well now in 8th.

We moved from the Bay Area to a rural town in Ohio 3 years ago. Being new and rural and from one of the most happening places, homeschooling for his personality for any longer length of time would have be detrimental to his social development. However, there are many homeschooling groups in the Bay Area, and many people whose children are non-usual learning also opt for homeschooling. I now homeschool my younger children, one of whom is also severely dyslexic. It is so good. I am also learning so much. Best regards.
