Hi everyone, I was just wondering what a typical day was like for your homeschooled teenagers with dyslexia? I am trying to get some new ideas for my two boys 14 and 16 who have dyslexia. Is there anything that you think is just fantastic and want to share? We read books on tape and watch educational videos and this year bought algebra 1/2 and geometry on video which really helped. Any ideas on writing? Thanks.
Writing
Greetings Celia,For writing, take a look at the Writing Strands curriculum which is designed for homeschoolers and LD (click on link below).I also highly recommend Verbal Intelligence: The Language Wise Method by Carmen & Geoffrey McGuinness ($16.95). This book contains many exercises and activites aimed at improving vocabulary, memory, logical reasoning and creativity in order to increase overall comprehension skills. Lessons include: How to use synonyms, How to read passive voice, How to anticipate what will happen in a story, How to define a word by its context in a story, How to remember key elements in a written passage, and many more.Blessings, momo

Greetings Celia,For some reason my previous post did not accept the link. I’ll try again.Blessings, momo
This is a book title, written by Jonathan Mooney and his friend. They are both dyslexics, and graduated from Brown University. The reason I’m suggesting it, is because it sounds like you’re running out of ideas. The book, which can also be read by your sons, may inspire your sons to answer your post themselves. What do they want to learn? Part of what got Jonathan accepted into Brown, was his desire to learn, in spite of his learning difficulties. P.S. I am having motivational difficulties right now, and so I think I connected with your post, with some real problems that I’m having, too. Sorry if it’s not really what you’re asking for.
