Hi I just found out about this site. I’m a Canadian High-School student with LD. (Writing/orginization) This book/paper does it cover more then just the reading aspects of Dyslexia? All the books at my Libary either say that LD is cause by droping a child during infancy or is only about mixing up letters while reading. I can’t find any books about the writing side. also does anyone know of any Canadian sites like this? I couldn’t find any.

Thanks
Swannoc

p.s. I hope the spelling is alright, the computer I’m using has no spell check

Hello Swannoc,

Thanks for your question.

The Human Side of Dyslexia does not address any one specific aspect of dyslexia as a problem. It’s a book of interviews of parents, siblings, and students who share their experience of living and coping with dyslexia in all types of situations, family, school, community.

The book is full of advise and tips for all people interested in how to cope with dyslexia. For you as as high school student there is helpful information about coping through high school and college.

I’m not aware of any site in Canada tha covers the subject in the same manner. However check out http://www.ldac-taac.ca for assistance.

If you want to purchase a copy of the book we can send one to Canada from California. Amazon.com also supplies books into Canada. The online price at www.edyslexia.com is $18.00 + $11.00 S&H to Canada. Delivery is 5- 7 days.

Rgds
Michael
PS - don’t worry about your spelling but always try to use a spell checker on any of your writing - It’s one of the most useful programs to have if you are concerned about spelling. Good luck - keep a good thought and you’ll win!

You are not alone out there. I teach learning disbility children in elementary schools and my own son has an writing/organization disability. For excellant information that is current and well researched, not opinions by parents or lay people, is ERIC Clearinghouse. Its an educators resource.
http://www.ericsp.org/pages/digests/locating.html
On the left side click on: Search the ERIC database
On the right side click on: Search Site
Type in “Writing Disability” in the search box and lots of information about your disability and how to work with it will appear in the form of articles.(Also, information on organizational disabilities)
Let us know if you have more questions. Don’t forget lots of colleges work with writing disabilities every day.
