I am looking for any kind of material on the teacher’s role in bringing the L.D student to independence. Independence with learning strategies, and independence for when the student leaves school and enters the real life, where he has to find a job, and struggle for reaching any goals he has in life. If you know of any articles that could help me, I am doing a presentation on this subject in my college, and so far I have not had much success in finding much on this subject. I thank anyone in advance who is willing to help me.
Hi There,
I have worked as a teacher associate for 9 years in a LD & BD setting. One quarter we had 3 boys that were seniors in High School. We taught them basic life skills class. They had to have a “Mock” jobs. The had a weekly paycheck, checkbooks and we went from there. it was awesome they had to shop for apartments, phone companies, utilities and so on. We got them set up for that then right into Monthly expenses and how to mange money. This class helped these boys extremly they really found out what it was like being in the real world.
We did many thing geared towards everyday life in that class. We had alot of feedback from parents how well they liked it. They felt it was benefical to their boys……….
Hope this helps you!
