Hi everyone, me again (Smiles). Sorry for the long post of my son’s testing scores, instead of posting all of his scores I should have referred back to his IEP’s ever since he began special education because it shows the progress he has made with reading, math, spelling…….clearly shows the progress he hasn’t made to meet his IEP goals meaningful/satisfactorily. During my observation of comparison from Pre-K to the fourth grade I noticed he has had progress reports made up, my way of being able to monitor his progress or regression. For his current IEP for the fourth grade however, a Progress Report was not drawn up, which I have made it a point for every grade to have one of those in his IEP folder…..Something else for me to run my mouth about. When I go to the table when school starts next month (different County cuz we moved) I will be demanding a re-evaluation of my son since he was attending school in the City where as now he will be attending the County Schools, and his IEP will be totally changed because with what has been implemented on his IEP has not helped my son out at all…….Pre-K: Math, Reading and Fine Motor: 48 months……he was four yrs old……..received 1 hr of S/L weekly……..Kindergarten……5 yrs old…….written language, perceptual motor functioning: 66 months, Cognitive:60 months S/L: 36 months……1st Grade…….6 yrs old…………Math Application, Computation: Below 1st grade,
Reading Comprehension: below grade level……My son was functioning below age and grade level in all areas…….S/L was increased he was to continue to receive 2 hrs of S/L when he went into the 2nd grade (which he didn’t)………2nd grade…….Reading, Math and Spelling: 1st grade…….S/L 60 min direct……30 min indirect………….3rd grade……..Reading and Math: 2nd grade……….***On his Progress Report from the S/L Pathologist it was implemented that the IEP team wish to continue intervention for S/L……Here’s a dumb question…….Intervention for S/L would be???? Does it mean continue with S/L Therapy????……..They didn’t even tell me or go over that with me……..Now, for third grade it was implemented on his IEP for Reading and Math he was on a 2nd grade level………but for 4th grade…..Reading skills: end primer level & beginning 1st grade…..Reading Comprehension: end primer level & beginning 1st grade………..Math Calculation/Reasoning: end primer level & beginning of 1st grade and for Spelling: end primer level & beginning 1st grade……….Now for the eval he had done in 2000 Phonological Awareness: Kindergarten range…….single word reading recognition: beginning 1st grade and Math Calculation: late first grade……….And the team tells me I have not proven that they can not provide for my son’s needs because he is making progress………He has a modified curriculum, adjust workload, modified materials, at least that is what is implemented on his IEP which they haven’t followed……I will still fight for one on one for my son, that he remain in special education/and get him out of being mainstreamed and he receive more speech/language therapy…..If this school can not and will not agree to what it is my son needs then they will have to find another placement that will……if they refuse, then a Due Process Hearing will be the next stop because this is ridiculous and I have had enough!! Sorry to yell……..I am not going to sit back while the team modifies, adjusts just so these teachers do not have to teach my son the basic skills he needs to learn because what they have modified and what they have adjusted has not helped my son receive what he is entitled to: an education………Whew, sorry to be venting……..Take Care and God Bless You.

Pamela…. I just finished reading your venting and trust me I have been there. One thing that I did not notice has your son been tested for any disabilities that would prevent his learning……..eg. deslexia, audio or visiual processing? Some times the learning is due to a greater problem then simply “can not keep up”. I have a 10 year old going into grade 5 that I refuse to IEP or have him taken out of the class due to what the teachers believe is an under achiever or lazyness. Please ask some more questions regarding his abilities rather than his lack of. I fought since he was pre kinder and now I see recovery … a long road but one with insight and self strength for him……we still have a long road ahead. Ask why was he put on an IEP was it easier for the teachers? (if I have missunderstood please forgive)………..my childs advocate his mom
