We have thought about taking our son out of school and home teaching him because it seems like the teachers just are no good this year but Im not sure if I could do it. And he does love school and he needs the interaction with other kids which he would not get if he was home. But I dont knwo how to get the teachers to start working for him instead of against him.
Tracie,
Have you had a meeting with them ? I would start there. Sometimes there are bad matches … it happens with everything not just school …. just bad combinations. I think there is a benefit to learning how to deal with that (for the child). Make a list of questions BEFORE you go – go with a positive attitude. Both my boys are homeschooled … they were in public school (they are 11 & almost 14). Homeschooling does work for them and believe it or not, they have a great social life … they do see other children, ALOT. Your decision should not be based on public school vs homeschooling …. it should be a decision based on the best way in which your child learns. Sometimes a meeting with the teacher clues her/him into the fact that you are a caring/concerned parent willing to work together (there are alot of parents out there who are real losers — maybe he/she has a classroom full of them) …. and together you can make it through the school year ….. OR maybe not. Homeschooling is the hardest thing I have ever had to do …. I am exhusted and poor! I gave up a great job with great benefits and all the little stuff (walking in the am after they got on the bus … a cup of coffee with a neighbor) to do this …. honestly, I would rather not BUT, my boys are doing really well and this is appropriate for them … we’ll be ok! Good luck
Susan
