Including all students.

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Being a pre-service teacher leads me to many questions about how I can include all students in my classroom. My main question is; how do I help the students with learning disabilities, while keeping the other students in the class motivated and on task? How can I include both in a lesson? If anyone has any good suggestions or tips please reply. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

Anything I could post here, you could also read in the *many* articles in the For Teachers section. Look for “Inclusion: Issues and Answers.”
And visit http://www.powerof2.org for more inclusive ideas.

A few things that new teachers often don’t realize:
— many students are *very* good at survival techniques so that you’ll *think* they’re learning. If you actually, really want to do your job, make sure they are.
— many students (though not all) who get judged and mentally filed away as dysfunctional or behavior problems would not be such if they weren’t set up for failure.
