On the LDOnline Home Page, there was a link to an article about effective teaching and learning strategies. The article doesn’t speak of math in particular, but about effective teaching in general. It’s interesting to note that most of the effective methods listed are exactly those I’ve been using and advising in math. They include working in general steps rather than memorizing one-time special cases, metacognition and self-checking, using general methods that transfer to many new situations, focusing on a goal, looking ahead and back, visualizing and sumarizing, relating background material to a problem, and many other good things. I hope you will take a look at this article and consider how this could help your math program.
