looking for professional resources

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have returned to teaching students with Learning Disablilities in junior/senior high school. I am trying to build my professional library, and my own expertise at the same time, by investing in books. There is so much available out there, that I’m looking for other professionals in this area and their recommendations. I’m not looking for curriculum type books to use in my classroom. Rather I’m trying to educate myself, my peers, and others regarding the best practices in helping children develop motivation, responsibility, reading skills, writing skills, etc. Currently behavior is not an issue with any of my students- but lack of motivation and the resulting classroom failure is. Any of your suggestions would be greatly appreciated- title, author, and publisher would help me track your suggestion down. Thanks.

I love the following book:
“TEACHING STUDENTS WITH LEARNING PROBLEMS”, Mercer and Mercer, ISBN 0-13-089296-3, Merril Prentice Hall. The accompanying website is http://www.prenhall.com/mercer
