MAPS process for IEP development

I can’t answer you direct question about MAPS but struck me that you need an advocate. I have read a lot of your posts and there is no question in my mind that your child’s problems have to impact academic performance.

In my experience, schools don’t want to do, what they don’t want to do. I am not sure that a different process will end in a different outcome.

Yes, thanks, Beth. I know that - but we live halfway between two large urban areas - each about 60 miles away. The only advocates exist in those areas - and I’ve called every one on the list from the state Parent Educational Advocacy and Training Center. They all have enough work and they don’t want to drive this far away.

Funny, I’ve taken so many seminars, and had so many nightmare experiences with my school system, and researched the laws so thoroughly - I’m thinking of taking a couple of classes and becoming an educational advocate because there is such a need here.

Of course, they always say never advocate for your own kids, or in your own school district! :)

Hi Beth,

I found someone from an outside source who will facilitate this MAPS or PATH process for me at the school. She is local. I’m hoping that once we get through that, we can have both a long term plan and short term plan in place for my son - and she will be there for me for advocacy!?! Anyhow, things are looking up, I hope. :)
