Mastering Arithmetic Facts

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Arithmetic fluency can be promoted with the right materials. Dr. Phyllis Fischer - author of the “Concept Phonics Reading Speed Drills” has developed “Speed Drills for Arithmetic Facts.” These include 48 pages of arithmetic fact drills that teach the concept of “fact families” and a student progress chart. More information can be obtained by emailing [email protected].

Just a side comment — drill sheets do not *teach* anything. They may be very useful as practice for mastery, but please don’t confuse that with teaching. Most of the kids I try to remediate have had far too much time staring blankly at worksheets and getting failing grades and feeling hopeless, and far too little *teaching*.
