Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I’m needing some Math computer programs. What do you recommend? I work with students with all kinds of disabilties. I’m looking for a program for an intense student as well as LD.
thanks,

What’s an intense student?

IF you’re talking basics, then I have heard good things about Intellimathics — and it is designed for all ages, too, so it’s not insulting. It’s by the same people who do Intellipics, I think… I will look back at my sources & get more information if it’s what you’re looking for.

Sunburst makes better math software than most places, and some of it is really excellent. There is a lot that *really* stinks out there./

Intensive is the label Alaska gives a student who needs a one-on-one assistant at all time. One of the boys I’m referring to is a severe Down Syndrome and the other is MR with Soto Syndrome. They have both learned to read and can communicate, etc. But math is really stumping us.

Based on what the folks on my assistive technology listserv, I would definitely check out “intellimathics.” There’s an archive of that discussion at www.qiat.org (it will take some clicking around to get there, though) — there’s a fairly detailed description of it. It sounds like it’s very strong in visual connections to the concepts and building things one step at a time.

HI,
Intellitools, offer several math programs, it depends on what you want to teach. I like all of them. Intellimathatics requries some programming and set up by the teacher. The others to consider is Math Pad (a word processing program for basic math), Math Pad +, and Number Concepts (a beginning math tutorial) all of thier software has universal access features, inculding on screen keyboards and scanning options. Check them out at www.intellitools.com
