One of my students chose Greek as an elective, and I can’t think of any accomodations/modifications that will help her out. She is a lower functioning LD student with a 3rd grade functional vocabulary/reading/comp level. Any suggestions will be very helpful. Thanks.
She chose Greek as a foreign language? Wow. That will be a challenge if she is reading at the third grade level. How can she read a foreign language when she can barely read her own?
Is this modern Greek or ancient Greek? If it’s ancient Greek, is there a spoken component to the class? Or is it just reading/writing Greek?
Whichever it is, for this student you would need to be content to have her learn the alphabet. If she can learn to read and write the letters of the Greek alphabet, major modification though that would be, that should be a sufficiently challenging task for her. Anything other than that, to begin to to develop any vocabularly in Greek would be extra.
You might also consider having her read some of the Greek myths in English at her reading level and count that as a part of the course for her.
