My son is ADHD with Learning Disabilities

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello,

I realize this is most ly for teachers but really hope I can get some help here. My son is an LD student and has been since 3rd grade. He is now a 7th grader. This is the first year that the staff at his school is dropping the ball with the tutor I guess is what I want to say. This is the LD teachers first year and she does not communicate with Anthony’s teachers as to what he is struggling with, or really doesn’t understand so she will know what to work with on him. One of the reg. ed. teachers told me he has no idea what she does over there, that is her territory and this is mine. This is one of the classes he is struggling with.

Can a child with an IEP have an F if he is in class and really trying? I am even paying a tutor after school to help him. He does have a couple of good teachers, however, there are two (Math and Literature) that just do not cooperate. It seems as though no one knows what the other is doing. Whoose job is it to see what he needs help with? Reg. education teachers or the LD teacher? I have had numerous conferences with this staff and the principal and am getting nowhere. I have another conf. with them all at once that I requested next Tuesday the 12th and am getting very anxious about it. My son does have an assignment book and we have all stressed the importance of writing assignments down and getting teachers to initial to be sure it’s correct. However, somewhere between copying from the board to the paper words get transposed, left out or otherwise. Therefore, he has no clue what he is to do. I have asked the staff to copy their plans for the upcoming week on Friday so that I can work with him over the weekend and have a jump start since the tutor wasn’t helping him. I’ve asked either write them down, copy them, email me or fax to me at work. Howver, the principal and teaching staff say they do not have time to do this for him. I has then stated to please leave the assignments on the board and I would arrive 30 minutes after school was out on my way home and write them down myself. I was told they get erased at the end of the day. I know this will come back from the school that this is his responsiblity but aren’t they supposed to do what the child needs in this situation? I am so aggravated. I appreciate your feedback.
Thanks, Gina
