Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

greetings.

i’m totally new to this forum but here goes.

i recently accepted a job as a IT coach for mencap uk who teach adults with learning difficulties.

i would very much like to hear from anyone who does this work also that i can ask many questions hehe.

my only experience was vol work for mencap when i was 18 and that involved taking them to the park and to the cinema and things like that.

no experience working with them in a learning capacity.

any help appreciated.

many thanks

A group you definitely want to hook up with is QIAT ( www.qiat.com ) - there’s a great email group there. These folks have been working with technology for years, and while much of the discussion is K-12 & kids, they can answer other questions too. (I work at a college with people with learning disabilities, but on this side of the pond that means that they have normal or close to normal intelligence but have a specific problem in one area like reading or math, beyond the normal ups and downs people have.)
