Hi! Have you had training in Lindamood-Bell, Orton-Gillingham, or Phono-Graphix or any other multi-sensory structured language program to teach reading? If not, that’s where you need to begin if the children have below grade level reading. Phono-Graphix is probably the easiest to do without training. You can pick up the book “Reading Reflex” to learn the basics. Eventually you’d need the classroom version with reproducible pages called “Word Work”. You definitely should order Visualizing and Verbalizing from Lindamood-Bell for comprehension.

There are some great teachers here that have taught older kids and can give you some excellent suggestions for other materials for writing, etc. I’m sure they’ll reply! Good luck!

Oh, thank you very much!! I have used phono-graphix before but with only one student. I wasn’t sure how to go about the whole classroom use. I didn’t know there was a classroom version, i will check it out. thanks very much

You’re very welcome! I am delighted to hear that you have used PG! That will make it much easier for you! Actually, Word Work seems to be better explained and laid out than the RR book. It has reproducibles in it for the games and letter squares, etc. Just in case you don’t get a reply from Shay, I remember that she uses Step Up to Writing by Sopris West

The reading and writing should keep you busy! Oh, I don’t remember if I mentioned Lindamood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing in my first post. I think that would be very essential to help you teach comprehension.

Have a great year!
