Re: What grade? Size class? Subjects?
Your very first minute of the very first day with the children mean the world. They should feel they’ve gone to Heaven - they should feel lucky that they have time with you. To have this happen, you need to know what makes them tick. Who are they? What do they enjoy? What do they need? By answering all of these in your day-to-day lessons, everyone wins and has a good time in the process.
Until you know your caseload and classroom teachers, you won’t know what resources you’ll need for teaching & learning.
So, review current IEP’s, review cumulative files, get working files set up. Also, get teacher’s schedules organized so that you know what is happening around you for the kids on your caseload.
For the first few days, observe. Handle any disruptive meltdowns. Meet w/teachers to see how you might best help them. Get a feel for the lay of the land, in other words. Meet your kids & talk to them about how they learn.
Finally, have fun. Piece of cake!
