plan ahead of time, how old are your kids? Are they using a PECS system? You need to have little cubby’s for their stuff, also I have seen cubicles when you are working one on one behavioral intervention work for some kids. A sensory table or section in the room where they can explore and relieve their sensory issues. They need to have a place where they can do listening to stories, music, etc.

You don’t need training to use PECS. It might be nice but it isn’t rocket science or Lindamood bell. :-) You might go put PECS or PEC in google and see if you run into any nice how to pages. I did this and was able to implement this without difficulty. All you need is some sort of symbol system or even nice clear pictures or photos (photos are better in the beginning anyway). Some cardboard or something to put the cards on. Velcro. And some surface for the cards— ie a board or cardboard box or… You start with one picture. It is great if you have an aide or someone to do the program with so you can demonstrate the system with someone else. For example, the aide gives you the card for cookie and then gets a cookie. This is the best way to do this.
