NILD

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I’m considering placing my son in this program for his weaknesses with processing speed, attention to visual detail, handwriting, writing, and reading fluency. I’d like to get some feedback from this forum. Any thoughts? Thanks, CG

I am not familiar with NILD, so cannot comment on that program. However, I am wondering if you have looked at cognitive skills training programs? Programs such as PACE, BrainSkills and LearningRx directly address development of processing speed, attention to visual detail, and reading fluency (by means of auditory processing exercises). They do not address handwriting and writing, but there are other programs that tend to be effective in those areas. These programs are best for children 8yo and older. For younger children, Audiblox can be quite helpful.

Website for PACE is http://www.processingskills.com. (BrainSkills is the home version of PACE, and LearningRx is the franchised version.) Website for Audiblox is http://www.audiblox2000.com.

I don’t have direct experience with it but the comments I’ve heard through the years on the board have been positive. (On the other hand, there were some interesting experiences with people who worked directl with the Audiblox folks because of some fundamental differences in parenting/teaching styles & methods.)
