PACE

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My 9 year old has poor short term memory as well as reading/writing difficulties. The PACE program was recommended by an ld teacher. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it successful?

We did PACE when my dd was 9. It helped a lot with memory and reading, not so much with writing. My understanding is that some kids don’t benefit much from PACE, but most do. The provider we used offered a refund if child didn’t gain at least 3 years in one area of deficit, and we could pull out at any time and get a refund for unused sessions. We were really happy with the results, though, as we could see improvements in reading and other areas by the sixth week or so. It was a good investment for us.

Claire,
Where there any improvements in speed? Like being able to respond to things faster. I’am assuming dd stands for dyslexic daughter. Where were you daughters weaknesses most extreme? In the areas that improved? I am wondering if the program works more for auditory dyslexia or visual dyslexia. I look at all the different programs (PACE, Davis Dyslexic Correction, Interactive Metronome. LB, Orton-Gillingham Reading) and every program has some people who feel it helps and some who don’t, but I can’t find a study that breaks down the statistics by type of disorder.Claire wrote:
