I’m trying to decide whether to do BrainSkills (abbreviated home version of PACE) or PACE with my 10 year old.
He has trouble with processing speed, visual and auditory processing, attention, short-term memory, and word retrieval.
Re: Is PACE worth the money? Or BrainSkills?
I agree with Connie.
Personally, I have a bias in favor of PACE because it worked so well with my daughter. It was definitely worth the money for us!!! Since your son is older and has multiple problem areas, I would think PACE would be the better choice for him also. Lots of results quickly boost the child’s morale and motivation to work. My understanding of BrainSkills is that it is really more suitable for boosting the capabilities of a non-LD child.

Reassuring to hear success story
We’ve decided to do PACE with trainer. I was very reassuring to hear your success story with the program. Thanks.

You’re asking which of the two programs to do, right? My understanding is that BrainSkills is most suited for people with less severe difficulties. It covers all of the cognitive areas, but it does so with fewer activities. I also understand that some of the activities are actually more advanced than the PACE ones.My son’s difficulties are/were the same as your son’s. PACE helped a lot.If you are doing the program yourself (rather than hiring a trainer) I think the phone consultation you get with PACE is really worth it. The program is effective only as much as it is individualized to the needs of each child. I used the phone consultation a lot, and I think we got better results because of it. I hope this helps you decide.
If you are asking whether to do the program at all–I got great results with my son. I also went on to train another child with ESL issues as well as severe auditory processing issues. She gained three years of reading in twelve weeks. If administered well I think the program is very effective for kids with processing issues.
