question for pattim; assistive listening device

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

pattim,
I have a question about your assistive listening device, is it a pocket talker or something like that? When do you find it most effective? I have a hearing aid in my left ear, the hearing loss thing is new for me(otosclerosis), I find it ok in quiet places or even the car but it just buzzes if there is a lot of noise around, like at office Christmas party(squealing kids), the movie theater. I had wondered if the portable thing might be better in some places than the aid and wanted to know your opinion and how things work for you. Thanks!

Sounds like your hearing aid needs to be adjusted….It sounds like the volume is up too high or the compression circuitry is kicking in when the noise is too loud.. I only use my assistive listening device in college classes and I use one at the movies without a hearing aid. My device is a wired device by phonic ear.
