Question for Reading Specialists

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello. For about a year, I have been teaching at a lovely religious school that has never had a reading specialist (or any other kind). It’s a great chance to work towards creating an ideal environment, and I’ve implemented and/or helped to implement a few new procedures. Now I’d like to tackle my program’s congruence with the classroom curriculum, particularly in the lowest grades. It’s something that I’ve had to attempt at other schools, but without any real guidelines or requirements. My question: how many of you would say your work is congruent with your student’s classroom curriculum, particularly in a pull-out model where you have kids from different teachers in one class? If so, how was it set up? I’ll have to plant the seeds of change this year, so I’m curious to know what other situations are like. Thanks in advance.
