Re: Grades being communicated by school

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Lynn, Thank you so much for the help. I think that I have taken care of the grades being reported. We will see. As long as it is the counselor requesting the grades on a form like you have mentioned, then I guess that makes all the difference in the world. I will definately look into the books on line :)Thank you for that.It just makes me sick to think about all the help and information there is, that never makes it to the parents or the children.I believe there is an unwritten pact between teachers and administrators, to “Offer NO information” let the parents find all this out on their own (Maybe nobody will tell them), if they finally do get some information somehow or become a squeeky wheel, then I guess we better help because, It is the law, “But don’t tell the parents that whatever you do!” :( I now have to turn my attention towards learning how to evaluate my child on my own, so that I may be sure he gets the proper revisions on his IEP at the end of the month.I did have the director of special services ask me what changes I wanted to see on his IEP, so I better study up. That is after I work a full time job, take care of dinner, bath and homework, somehow spend some time with my other chidren, and of course feed and pet the dog. Thank you for listening to me Lynn! This won’t be the last time you here from me, but I suppose I should post on the parents board. We may have a conflict of interests here. Stephanie: Stephanie,: I can understand your frustration. My son has also been diagnosed
: LD/ADD, but since kindergarten. He is currently in the 7th grade
: (middle school)and at his school they have implemented a ‘Weekly
: Progress Report’. Any parent can ask for it (if they know it
: exists). It’s a form that has room for all 6 periods and each
: teacher can put what the child’s grade is at that time and there
: is also room for the teacher to write notes. The only bad part is
: that it’s the kid’s responsiblity to take it to each teacher to
: fill out.: Since I found out about this at the beginning of the year I’ve called
: religiously every week (you can’t be on a permanent request
: list, don’t ask me why!) to have this form. By now, the teachers
: know it should be available every Thursday and even ask my son
: where it is - it’s just become a habit for all of them!: I understand what Sara is saying about smoke and mirrors, but there
: is NO reason a teacher can’t give you some sort of weekly progress
: report so you know where your child stands in that particular
: class.: You might also want to check into getting his textbooks on tape from
: the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic group -
: http://www.rfbd.org. This has been a godsend for our son -
: especially the social studies text books! I have him follow along
: while the tape is going, so he can see the charts, graphs, and
: pictures the tape refers to, but it seems he really retains a lot
: more by listening to it than trying to struggle through the actual
: reading.: Hope this helps!
