: We are starting a new reading program at our High School. The
: students will be from many diverse levels. I desperately need some
: suggestions on Reading Programs and books. Please help me!!!!For decoding, I would go for the SRA Corrective Reading program. It’s a great group program. For your more severe LDs, you may opt for Wilson Reading Systems which was originally designed for middle school and up. This is a multisensory reading program that requires staff training, which may take time. For comprehension, there are several ways you can go. You can start off with Lindamood-Bell’s Visualizing and Verbalizing which is designed to help with oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. The best part of this program is that it is cheap, cheap, cheap! All you need is a manual, teacher-made structure cards, felt squares, and books that have graded passages ranging from short to 1-2 pg. passages. L-B specifically recommends the Specific Skills series, but other similar materials can be substituted. Also, I like using the reading comprehension series by Jamestown Publishers. The have books of short stories that begin with 2nd grade comprehension ability all the way to 8th grade, but subject matter is geared to middle-high school-adult readers.Hope this helps.Marilyn
