Reading Pen II

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Reading Pen II is a small hand held scanner. The student scans a word or a line of text. Then the pen reads the word or the line of text to the student. The pen also has a build in dictionary and can show the word in syllable format.

Has anyone used this pen with their students? What do you think of the product? I would like to get some feedback before trying it.

From what I have heard, the newer versions are a lot better than previous ones and it’s a good tool — the folks who say they love it tend to be older students who need a word here and there. Like everything else, it’s not all it’s hyped to be :-) A significant issue would be fine motor skills (especially with scanning small print) — but, of course, only significant if that’s an issue.
I think I’d drop in at the QIAT site & check the archives or even write those guys a note (www.qiat.org) — those are the folks that actually use this stuff.
