Hi,
I’m considering using Seeing Stars with my dau. after I had her assessed by Lindamood Bell. I’m not sure this is the best approach so I’m seeking advice. She reads at mid 2nd level and she is 11y.o. She has had about 2 1/2 yrs. of OG, some Alphabetic Phonics and now she’s doing Take Flight.
She used to have auditory processing problems, but now this is her relative strength. She tests at k.9 to 2.7 in various reading skills. She does best with Step in Reading books but still makes numerous mistakes. I know she has some perceptual, visual spatial, visual motor problems. She knows her alphabet, consonant sounds, vowel sounds etc. Her trouble seems to be putting it all together. She has trouble blending, especially with consonants. Larger words are challenging as well as names and nonsense words. She also has trouble with the more unique vowel sounds such as (ew, aw, oo and ou). She can’t seem to see smaller words inside larger ones. Needless to say her fluency is off.
Does anyone have any suggestions??? I think this is more a visual problem then auditory. But auditory may still be involved. She can occassionally self correct or she may substitute a word that has the same meaning such as grandma for grandmother.
Thanks,
Sue
