Reading Programs?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Just found a couple of posts on Stevenson Reading. This is the program used by our district. What would be a good program to use at home in conjunction with this. My son seems to be making a little progress, but not alot. Resource teacher says give the program time to work. Wonder how long that is???? I still am not seeing “mastery” on the report I receive with his report card. He is in Resource 45 min/d.
ps…we only have school assessment of LD/Dyslexic tendencies, no specific diagnosis to date.

I don’t know the Stevenson program well, nor do I know your son’s age, but it’s already December. You’ve given it time. Set up a meeting with the teacher to find out if your son is progressing, but just slowly, what exactly the program teaches and how, and what you can do to help him at home. You might request that he get additional reading instruction during the day. If that fails, I’d look into an Orton program. See if there is an Orton Gillingham group in your area to advise you.
