I became so curious about the success of phono graphix that I read from this board, so I bought the book. I’m almost finished reading it. Question: doesn’t your student get confused when you say “sound picture” instead of letter?
Re: reading reflex
I’ve been doing it with my son for a few months, and he had no problem with that phrase. In fact, he’s moved very fluidly between the way PG describes things and his OG-based instruction. I think the rules he had already learned previously weren’t confused by the new way of looking at it, and for the parts of the code he hadn’e learned or automated it gave him a different neural pathway.
I use this book with my son and I have to admit, it was more confusing for me. I had to keep reminding myself that it was a sound picture. Eventually, he didn’t even notice (nor do I) and once I started seeing his gains in the sound symbol relationship it didn’t matter!
