Do you have any suggestions about what kind of reading test I could ask the sp.ed. teacher to give my son, a 12 yr old 7th grader? He hasn’t had a test specifically to re-evaulate his grade level reading since 4th grade and I am interested in finding out what level he may be on now. In 4th, he tested at grade 2 and 5mos. on the Kaufman test. He totally bombed on the reading/lang. arts part of the terra nova test that was given to all 6th graders last year. He did well on the social studies and science parts though, they are partially read to him by the sp.ed. teacher(one of his accommodations).
I still feel like we may not be doing enough for him as far as the reading which he is still catching up on but without any specific help. I am thinking if they test him and he still tests low, then I can ask that they do something specific. He is doing better but I still see things. For instance, he had to read a story in lit. this week about a mentally retarded couple, when answering the questions about the story my son wrote that the man’s disability was that he was lazy. Boy did I pick up on that!! Was shocked and made my son read the foreward again which explained the character’s disability. We had a discussion about disabilities in general and my son’s problems specifically.
BTW thanks for the blessings earlier, I needed them. Things are a lot calmer this week…so far :o) As for the breakfast deal, my younger son decided I guess to test the waters and told me he didn’t want to eat on Tuesday so I decided ok, you guys don’t have to eat, just drink your milk with your meds., and don’t go to the nurse if you have a headache or stomachache cause I wasn’t coming to get them and the nurse would ask if they ate breakfast and when they said no she would just send them back to class. Well, come Wednesday my youngest ate a bowl of cereal and his milk w/out a word and my oldest went with juice and hot chocolate.Today my youngest made his own bowl of cereal and my oldest actually asked me to make him oatmeal. So… I guess they were hungry! LOL
Take care y’all.
I know some of my message goes to the adhd parents board, however I am sure they are reading all over the bb’s like I do :o)
