I am looking for responses in regard to the benefits or drawbacks of reading to high school resource room students?
Re: Reading to your high school level kids.
What do you mean, reading to them? Do you mean a book or are their accommodations ‘read to’ do to the fact that they can’t read their school books? If you are using the CD’s that come with their literature books, continue this. I use the CDs all the time, they are professional ‘readers’ and they make the stories come alive. We use them all of the time in all of our 11th grade English classes. If you mean that you are reading books and tests to them due to their accommodations; teach them how to read and get rid of the accommodations.
Well, if they’re sitting in the back of the room playing poker while you read… it’s not a good thing.
If they’re accountable for learning from it, go for it.
