I am an education major at Muskingum College in Ohio, and I’m do a research project on LD students and involvement in extracurricular activities through the grade levels. I will also be looking at self esteem levels and seeing how they relate. If you could respond and tell me what kind of things your students participate in I would really appreciate it. Please also include your grade level and type of setting in which you teach. Thank you so much for your help.

Unfortunately, most schools these days seem to have budget cuts, which inevitably affect the extra activities of our youngsters. I teach in Beaverton, Oregon, though, and we have been lucky enough to receive a grant over the past few years which allows us to do an afterschool porgram. Most of it is afterschool homework help, but the rest is school clubs. I know that out of my 13 kiddos in my 6/7 self contained classroom, about 7 were involved in some sort of club after school. A couple of others have participated in afterschool activities that they need to pay for. They usually are in the choir, dance, help to others (a service club), or the chess club.
