I recently found this software that seems to be working for me. they are digital flash cards. www.powerupflashcards.com
you can create traditional flash cards (word/definition, question/answer) and print them out, or study them on the computer
Pro’s
It installed really easily
It is designed to almost look like a video game so the kids seem to like it.
My one autistic child is nuts over Mickey Mouse. The software allows you to make different backgrounds (“skins”) for the application while they study. So I got a Mickey Mouse picture from the web and put it in the background while she studies.
You can make the decks really quickly. And you can do it on any subject
Con’s
I’d like it to be able to do sounds and pictures too. I guess they want to make is simple, which is ok i guess.
It is really geared towards schools. They sell it for 50 bucks for a school wide license. But when I called to order, I asked if I could buy that and copy the CD for my kids even though it’s not in a school and they said yes.
Conclusion,
For the price, it’s worth a shot. Especially if you are actually a teacher in a school setting. They give you a CD and you can copy it as many times as you want. It’s easy and the kids seem to take to it. Hopefully in the next version they’ll put in pictures and sounds, but I was very impressed with how you can study randomly or in order.
