SLPs -Language pragmatics Test

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

There were postings here a few weeks ago regarding pragmatic language skills and how they are identified through testing. If our dd. does not qualify for speech, language, or voice services, how could we obtain this type of testing? Is there a more informal series of questions that would be similiar to such a test. I have begun to write down questions that pertain to children’s problem solving issues in an attempt to discover if there is a need here for our dd.

Is one test an SLP can give, another is the Test of Problem Solving Revised, which looks at how the child notices things in their environment, reasons solutions, avoids problems, infers problems etc…and The Word test looks at vocabulary skills in the classroom and real-life contexts.

I would think an assessment that looks at her logic and reasoning skills may show some more information besides the issue with pragmatics because sometimes children with pragmatics skills have weak logic and reasoning skills…
