I just attended a military expo where the smart boards were exhibited and I am wondering ‘why aren’t these in use in classrooms?’. It just makes so much sense especially for kids who have problems with listening to lectures and writing notes at the same time. It’s amazing, all the teacher has to do is push print on the computer and all the notes from class are printed out.
For those who don’t know what this is, it is an electronic white (dry erase) board that is hooked up to the computer, teachers can use it to show overhead overlays, use it like an overhead projector, they can write on it like a reg. dry erase board, lots of different things, it’s amazing. Of course my husband says they have been using this for a while in his office. Well, I can’t think of a better place to use this technology than in SCHOOL!
I intend to bring the ad materials to my kids’ school tomorrow and hopefully they will join the 21st century.
Amyf, this sounds like awesome technology! Your kids and mine have the luxury of DOD schools where cash is not as big of an issue as in many stateside school districts. The public school I work in is a different story. We are having to destaff our grade level aides 1st-5th. That means no one to help the younger ones use the computerized accelerated reader and accelerated math programs, no one to tutor the child who desperately needs 1:1 to learn to read… etc. Sad situation. Yet, if we start a war with Iraq, we will spend billions to rebuild their nation after it’s over.
