For students who already have difficulty with their own language, which foreign language should they take, spanish or latin? Why?
It’s a good question but the answer to it may vary depending on the reason that the student struggles with their own language
. I will say this for Latin. Many Latin teachers teach in English while increasing numbers of other foreign language teachers teach by “immersion” which means they will only speak the foreign language in class. Usually in Latin classes, the teacher speaks English and so do the students so no time needs to be devoted to learning the language conversationally.
Latin also spells phoentically. It’s a pure phoenetic language. That helps some students who struggle with spelling.
