My best friend has a son in Special Day Class. This is a large middle school, inner city, ethnic mix, neighborhood ranging from poor to working poor to middle class.
The SDC is over 20 kids and my friend says the teacher spends most of his time controlling behavior. Maybe this is obvious, and a common enough situation in this day and age; what are the options for the parents that are willing and eager to participate in their kids’ education?
Can they press for more Instructional Aides?
Can they press the district to turn this in to two classes? Or to have them use teaching methodologies that are successful with large classes?
Thanks!
John
