Special Ed major in CT

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi! I’m a special education student at Saint Joseph College in CT and I am looking to help a family with a child with a moderate to severe disability as a project through school. Free of charge - at least 15 hours of spending time with your child, doing things with him/her, getting to know him/her. Who knows, it could turn into a regular thing and go well beyond just 15 hours!!

If you or anyone you know would be willing to allow me to get to know your/their child, please e-mail me at [email protected].

Thank you,
Liz

Sorry - I forgot to mention that the child needs to be between the ages of 6 and 21 years old.

Thanks!

Hi Liz ~ I’m a sped. teacher in Andover, CT. Have you tried contacting the Dept. for Mental Retardation or the Association for Retarded Citizens? Either of those might be able to hook you up with families who are in need. I don’t know how much response you’ll get, since most of the people who post here are involved with LD rather than more severe disabilities. I’m a 4-6 resource room teacher in Andover; if you ever have questions about that or need a place to observe I’d be happy to talk to you! Good luck! Jenn

Dear Liz,

I am a mother of 6 children ages 19-6 of which 3 of my children have been diagnosed with an auditory proccessing problem with no short term memory, one other with a vocabulary deficit disorder and the youngest we is presently receiving informal speech & language and occupational therapy and is in the process of testing. As you can imagine, I can only do so much and your help is what I have been praying and seeking in addition to what I am presently doing, the school, etc.

I am not trying to scare you off, but we could really use the aid. If you are interested, please contact me and I can fill you in with the particulars. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you,
Mary
