Hello, I am struggling with two boys in fourth grade who are demonstrating intermittant letter identification and sound symbol coorespondence. They do not seem to consistently identify letters or tell matching sounds, yet when provided cues using association, will correctly identify. Seem to have visual memory deficit yet when prompted to count by twos, close their eyes and accurately number count. Appear to utilize sequencing skills also to ID letters by looking at the alphabet line and saying the abc’s in order until they get the the “one.” In isolation, impossible to gain consistent improvement. Have used tactile, kinesthetic, tape recordings with visual, computer programs, manipulatives, flashcards with tactile etc. These kids are expected to take state reading test with very little accomodations. Please advise, I really want to help these kids. Thank you so much.
