student support group-students with and without LD

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

One of my students and I wrote a grant to run a group that focuses on increasing the awareness and acceptance of students with learning disabilites. We have some ideas of what we would like to do, however, we do not want to make it boring for the students. It is our hope that the students without disabilities that are in this group will gain a better understanding of the various learning disabilities and take more of a leadership role in providing more acceptance and tolerance in the regular education environment. Does anyone have any resources/ideas for activities? We are already using some ideas from the teaching tolerance website.

Does your faculty show acceptance of the students with learning differences? I find that goes the longest way in getting students to accept them.

They used to talk about a video called Fat City which I’m sure you can still find and get. It demonstrates some of the things that can be hard for ld people.
