teaching history

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I was just reading an old post regarding how to teach about the middle ages without being boring and I had an idea about teaching history in general. I was never interested in history when I was in school. All those names and dates meant nothing to me. When I became interested in history it was because I found characters I could relate to and found their daily lifes interesting. What was it like to wake up in the morning if you were a peasant woman in the middle ages? What did you slept in? What did you eat and where did it come from? How many children did you have? What did you dream about? Maybe writing or recording a story about a character… perhaps using props for inspiration… coming up with new ideas about that characters life over a period of days or longer could be fun. Perhaps it would help if you chose a character as well so you could share your ideas about your characters with each other. Just an idea I wanted to share.
