Teaching job

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hey ya’ll,

I just got hired for the teaching job at the charter school. They are hiring me as a substitute until I get all my credentials. I think they probably took one look at the waiver form and decided to skip all the red tape. :-)

Congratulations !!!

I’m sitting here laughing because I have this image in my head of a bunch of administrators in the office taking turns skipping rope using a big piece of red tape.

There is that, Victoria. Didnt’ really want to do anythign but my private practice. However, it really wasn’t working out.

I think this may. At least I am hopeful that they are serious about remediation and not just maintaining. Also were interested in catching reading problems early. All good signs, imo.

Congrats des! Are you planning to continue tutoring? THis may give you more referrals in addition to a regular income. Good luck.

I hear you on the private practice stuff…sometimes it is more of a headache than it is worth… people come late, pick up late, don’t pay on time, don’t do homework that you create to help remediate…etc…

That is great about getting a job as a substitute…but hang in there to finish your credentials…as you want to get credit for retirement…and from my knowledge the years that you work as a substitute with an emergency credential do not count towards years of service or retirement…

I plan to at least keep one of the clients I have.

The biggest headache is not coming in. Cancelling for various reasons.

I’m hired as a sub until I get my credentials. Once I get them they will offer me a contract as a regular teacher.

I didn’t ask any questions re: why the sub vs the contract, but I would guess that it is less red tape (had to laugh about them jumping rope on red tape :-)); they are sure to get me that way (I think that a waiver could be denied); and they are starting the school year very soon. I just
heard and it is Aug 9 (thankfully it is air conditioned). Recall way back when, I worked at a school with no ac. It was just horrible in September and this was in Mo.

That’s great, des! Sounds like they really wanted you to find a way around the certification issue!
