I have a student that I have been working with on money skills. She knows all the coins and the values of each one of them. She can count the coins when they are all the same, but has difficulties with counting different values together. I have tried using touchpoints on the coins, a hopper board, and real money, but this still hasn’t helped her to be able to count the value of money. Does anyone have any ideas of what else may help her? Thanks!
: Try taking it down a notch. Use M and Ms. Put them in piles that correspond to the value of coins. (You’ll need a few M and Ms.)Can she count the M and Ms? Can she add up the values of the various piles to get a final number? If she can do that or brought to do that, then on top of one desk use the MandMs. ON the other desk, put the coins in an equivalent value to the number of M and Ms.The question is… is the adding up money that’s the problem or is it adding up that’s the problem?I have a student that I have been working with on money skills.
