Teaching my pre-schooler at home

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My child has been diagnosed with cognative and developmental delays. I want to work with him at home but am unsure where to start. He is starting kindergarten in Fall and I want to work on getting him ready. Where do I start?

Please help

through the local school district that you reside in. Have you checked into their early intervention programmes? If you want to do your own thing there are some great preschool ideas in the Mailbox magazine and also in the local teacher supplies store. You can also concentrate on teaching him lots of music and fingerplays.

Depending on how severe the delays are, you might want to start him on Audiblox (http://www.audiblox2000.com ). This program is suitable for preschoolers on up, but I think you want a functioning level of about 4yo. In any case, the developers could tell you if it would be appropriate for where your son is now.
