teaching writing

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone know of a good writing program to teach students with learning disabilities. Also our school is just starting to look into new reading programs for students with disabilities. We are looking at Wilson, and Language!. has anyone used either and if so was it with success, etc. I teach in a K-5 building. We are looking for a program that will go all the way through highschool.

I like Stack The Deck ( http://www.stackthedeck.com/ ) or Read 180 ( http://teacher.scholastic.com/products/read180/ ). While Read 180 is primarily a reading program it does have a great writing and spelling component. Stack the Deck, however, is strictly a writing program. It helps teach kids that if they can say it, they can write it. The process is very step by step, building skills as you go through the books.
