teaching writing skills to LD child

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have a 9 year old son. He was diagnosed with a Reading and Language LD a couple of years ago. Although his reading has improved since homeschooling, he cannot write much at all. Not only does he have difficulty forming letters, it is as if he has a block in his brain that will not let what he is thinking come out on paper. He can talk to me all day, but if I ask him to write, it is nearly impossible. Can anyone suggest teaching strategies?

Thanks!

Email me and ask for my notes and outlines. Yes you can help him, no it is not too late, and being ale to write adequately is a life skill, so it is worth working on.

Fluent writing, putting ideas on paper freely, is a LOT harder than many people want to admit. It takes time, often years. I remember my own struggles. Don’t expect great novels right away, but work on it and it will come.
